Summer & Autumn Activities and Events in LancashireCallam Mcloughlin
As we head into the last month of Summer and Autumn, you might think there’s less going on around Lancashire. However, there’s something going on all year round here in the Ribble Valley and the rest of the Yorkshire Area.
Here we’re going to take a look ahead into Autumn to see what events are taking place that you can catch during your stay here at Rimington Leisure Park.
Blackpool Illuminations, 30 August – 3 November
The famed Blackpool Illuminations return to the seaside town this year with the usual extravaganza of light that attracts thousands of visitors each year, and this year will also see spectacular 3D projections in front of the iconic Blackpool Tower every night.
The event is totally free, with displays right up and down ten kilometres of the town’s promenade and featuring over a million lightbulbs in total.
Most people choose to drive down the promenade to take in the event, although you could also jump on board one of the famous trams, or of course, walk!
October half-term also sees the LightPool festival, which features a special programme of family events.
Vintage by the Sea Festival 2019, 31 August – 1 September
The Vintage by the Sea Festival in Morecambe celebrates the very best of 20th-century culture, music, art and style over the course of the weekend.
The event sees live bands and DJs flock to the seaside, as well as classic cars, vintage markets, fairground rides, swing dance lessons, workshops and much more celebrating all things vintage.
Entry to the festival is free, although some of the music events are ticketed.
World Fireworks Championship Blackpool, every Friday in September
Each Friday throughout September will see some of the best pyrotechnic artists in the world head back to Blackpool to illuminate the sky with their spectacular fireworks displays.
The whole event is free, so all you need to do is make sure that you get a good place on the promenade before the action kicks off, with the programme as follows:
Friday 6 September: Estonia, Pyrocom
Friday 13 September: Canada, Orion Fireworks
Friday 20 September: Ukraine, Dance of Fire
Friday 27 September: Celebratory display and winners announcement from Titanium Fireworks
Do bear in mind though that this even is obviously dependent on good weather, so maybe check the forecast before you set off!
Holmes Mill Okto-BEER-Fest, 3 – 20 October
Holmes Mill is a former textiles mill located just down the road from our park here at Rimington and hosts a food hall, bistro and more, but October sees them dedicate a whole month to beer!
Hosted in their beer hall, Okto-BEER-Fest will see them celebrate beers from around the world, with events taking place throughout the month, including their big Oktoberfest to kick things off with a celebration of all things Bavarian.
Light Up Lancaster, 1 – 2 November
This annual event sees thousands of people hit the streets of Lancaster to experience a light show and art trail that takes over the whole city, with one of the biggest fireworks displays in the North to cap it all off at Lancaster Castle.
The festival features projections, artwork and installations from local and internationally renowned artists, located around some of the city’s best-known historic landmarks.
If you’ve never visited Lancaster before, it’s a good way to explore the city’s beautiful centre’s squares and historic buildings and see them in a different light, literally!
Romesh Ranganathan, 10 & 24 November
If you’re a comedy fan, plenty of big names are heading to the area with Autumn, including Romesh Ranganathan who is playing not one, but two dates at King Georges Hall in Blackburn in November.
Having seemingly been everywhere on TV in the past year or so on programmes such as The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan, A League Of Their Own and Judge Romesh, Romesh has established his name as one of the most respected comedians on the scene today is heading back out on tour with a new show titled The Cynic’s Mixtape this Autumn.
These are just some of the events taking place in Lancashire over the next few months, but be sure to check out the What’s On page at Visit Lancashire for a full breakdown of events taking place during your stay here at Rimington Leisure Park.
